Pole Plant 101
While the pole plant has evolved considerably from the time that this video was made, I thought that I would leave the video on the site for historical purposes. Currently, the pole plant is seen as the result of proper upper body management. If the skier has a good "home base position for the arms and counter-balancing and counter-acting movements are sufficient, there is very little need to do a "pole planting" movement. However, there is still good advice contained in the video - especially the advice to get the movements done early. Here is the original article:
After one has general competence in the basics (tipping, flexing, etc.), a good pole plant can complement effective lower/upper body coordination.
I made the the following video to illustrate the basic actions and timing involved in an effective pole plant. Watch for a follow up on refining actions and mistakes with placement.
